Designer Spotlight: Misty MunnThis week’s designer is the very talented Misty Munn! Hi! My name is Misty Munn and I live in Sumrall, Mississippi with my wonderful hubby of 15 years and our four amazing kiddos “Times Like These”: I used the transparency sheet, but simply cut the single circle with the title printed on it and I knicked the edges of my paper with my craft knife…then used my Tim Holtz distress tool to rough up the edges and finished it off with my Tim Holtz ink pad in Black Soot. “Victory”: I secured the “Film Strip” transparency over my cropped photos by using my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and finished the layout with the same distressing techinique listed above on the edges. I also dabbed the chipboard letters on the ink pad to add the black color to them. “Gameboy”: I used the same edging technique on this layout…including the star that I cut with my Cricut. and I simply cut a small piece of the “Gears” diecut sheet to add a little bit of dimension to it all. “Jack” Banner: I cut the pennants with my Cricut…and distressed each one with my TH distress tool. I cut the “Gear” diecut sheet to fit on one pennant for texture. The stars and letters (J-A-C-K) were also cut with my Cricut and distressed with my Black Soot inkpad. My name is Jana Barbay and I live in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana. I have been married to my best friend for 27 years. We stay very busy with our children who range in age from 23 years to 3. I work as a Federal Officer and am fortunate that I am able to work from home. My family is the most important thing to me. When I am not carpooling, cooking, attending football games, or dance lessons, I am scrapbooking my children’s lives. Layout: Happy
I have fallen in love with Sassafras products! Each paper has a decorative border which always makes a precious addition to your layout. Sassafras products are colorful and funky. I love that they offer coordinating cardstock stickers to make your layouts come to life. I added buttons to my flowers and popped them up to add some dimension. I love to journal on my layouts and tell my children’s stories. I often cut my journal into stripes and adhere them in a variety of ways. I find it’s a great way to use up empty space. Layout: Helping Hands
I really wanted the focus of this layout to be my daughter’s sweet little hands. My favorite things to scrapbook are my children’s everyday lives. Once again, I used October Afternoon and Jillibean products. They make every layout special. I love the look of banners and made this one with my circle punch. I folded each circle in half over my thread and sealed them with glue dots. I love the look and feel it gives this layout. Layout: My Bikini Babe When I look at this layout..I see summer. I used soft prints, butterflies, and flowers to achieve the effect I was looking for. I used a circle punch to make my flowers and sun and embellished them with buttons. I also used a punch to make my butterflies and added a bit of bling to complete the look. I used October Afternoon paper and my title is made with Thickers and Jillibean Corrugated Green Alphas.

I am delighted to have been selected to be on this design team with these talented ladies on Elizabeth’s design team. I try to design my layouts to focus on the photo and to capture the moment with color and patterns as I did in the Paradise and Beach Babes layouts. I like to use hidden journaling or to journal around elements on the layout. Ribbons and lace are my downfall and only a very few of my designs do not have one or both. You can keep up with Jules at www.postingfromparadise.blogspot.com and http://jules-atoasttoalteredart.blogspot.com. Designer Spotlight: Nicole PetersenOver the next eight weeks, we will be spotlighting a different Simply Scrappin’ Creative Team member every Monday. I choose Nicole Petersen as our first designer. Hello, I’m Nicole Petersen. I live in Houma, Louisiana in Cajun country with my husband of 16 years and our daughter. I am an elementary school teacher by day and a die-hard scrapper/altered artist by night and weekend. Reading and junking are passions of mine that roll-over into my style of scrapping. Eclectic, vintage, meaningful, and artsy are great words that describe my style. Lately, I seem to reach for mediums, paint, mists, and sandpaper. I have taught scrapbooking, make and takes, and altered projects for eight years at local scrapbook stores and events. Besides Simply Scrappin’s Design Team, I am also a current memeber of Glitz Design’s Altered Art Team.
“sweet love grows here:” this layout features: the queen bee collection from pink paislee. this is a very subdued, soft yellowish- green palette with a lot of browns. love it! “sweet love grows here” layout: I cut the die-cut shape from the collection into smaller pieces to frame the bottom portion of the picture, added a little stamping, and topped it off with great cork buttons and huge jewel brads. I used paper cupcake holders to make the flower with a mixture the small and large flower cut-outs from the pattern paper of the queen bee collection. of course, there is a bit of misting involved and pop dotting! “my 10 current favorites” : this layout features : cosmo cricket and coordinations cardstock. love how this came out! easy, easy layout. I made the clouds at the bottom by punching out a scallop circle and cutting it into a semi-circle. fun. then, I hand-rolled the flowers and gave them a little stitching on the back. for the yummy background, I inked the entire page with some distress ink from ranger. it really made the wood grain pop off the page! “enjoy the journey of two” canvas: this is a gift that I am giving my daughter for her new home. it is also a project featuring the queen bee collection. notice the green – love it with yellow. first I painted the canvas with studio paint from ranger. then, I distressed it with staz-on ink and a sanding block. I made the flower using the new pleated ribbon from pink paislee, but I added some mist to help the color pop off the canvas. the dangly jewels were super cool to play with for hours. I first backed a tim holtz charm with pink paislee paper, added pearls, a charm, another tim holtz charm, and held it all together with another queen bee brad. sweet project!
