Designer Spotlight: Nicole Petersen
Over the next eight weeks, we will be spotlighting a different Simply Scrappin’ Creative Team member every Monday.
I choose Nicole Petersen as our first designer.
Hello, I’m Nicole Petersen. I live in Houma, Louisiana in Cajun country with my husband of 16 years and our daughter. I am an elementary school teacher by day and a die-hard scrapper/altered artist by night and weekend. Reading and junking are passions of mine that roll-over into my style of scrapping. Eclectic, vintage, meaningful, and artsy are great words that describe my style. Lately, I seem to reach for mediums, paint, mists, and sandpaper. I have taught scrapbooking, make and takes, and altered projects for eight years at local scrapbook stores and events. Besides Simply Scrappin’s Design Team, I am also a current memeber of Glitz Design’s Altered Art Team.
Here are a few projects from Nicole’s kit this month.
“sweet love grows here:” this layout features: the queen bee collection from pink paislee. this is a very subdued, soft yellowish- green palette with a lot of browns. love it!
“sweet love grows here” layout: I cut the die-cut shape from the collection into smaller pieces to frame the bottom portion of the picture, added a little stamping, and topped it off with great cork buttons and huge jewel brads.
I used paper cupcake holders to make the flower with a mixture the small and large flower cut-outs from the pattern paper of the queen bee collection. of course, there is a bit of misting involved and pop dotting!
“my 10 current favorites” : this layout features : cosmo cricket and coordinations cardstock. love how this came out! easy, easy layout. I made the clouds at the bottom by punching out a scallop circle and cutting it into a semi-circle. fun.
then, I hand-rolled the flowers and gave them a little stitching on the back. for the yummy background, I inked the entire page with some distress ink from ranger. it really made the wood grain pop off the page!
“enjoy the journey of two” canvas: this is a gift that I am giving my daughter for her new home. it is also a project featuring the queen bee collection. notice the green – love it with yellow.
first I painted the canvas with studio paint from ranger. then, I distressed it with staz-on ink and a sanding block. I made the flower using the new pleated ribbon from pink paislee, but I added some mist to help the color pop off the canvas.
the dangly jewels were super cool to play with for hours. I first backed a tim holtz charm with pink paislee paper, added pearls, a charm, another tim holtz charm, and held it all together with another queen bee brad. sweet project!
